There are several steps required for web site design, and Enlink Design will guide you through every step of the process. Here are the key steps:

  • Determine your target audience and the purpose of the web site (Examples: sell products, provide information, attract customers to your business).
  • Select a style and the colors (Examples: “flashy”, subdued, colorful).
  • Gather information for the site (Examples: product descriptions and price, contact information, company information).
  • Select a domain name (see below).
  • Register the domain name.
  • Stay in contact with the web designer to answer questions and provide feedback as the site is developed.
  • Preview the site as it is built.
  • Give final approval.

Domain Name Rules

When selecting a domain name, observe these limitations:

  • Use only letters, numbers, or a dash (“-“).
  • Domain names cannot begin or end with a dash.
  • Domain names are not case sensitive.
  • Domain names cannot include spaces.
  • Domain names should not exceed 63 characters.
  • Note: Many Internet applications can’t support over 26 characters (extension not included.

The following extensions can be used:

  • .com - For commercial and personal web sites.
  • .net - For companies involved in Internet infrastructure.
  • .org - For non-profit organizations and clubs.
  • .us - For U.S. citizens or residents plus any business or organization with a presence in the United States.
  • .biz - For commercial businesses.
  • .info - For anyone, but seldom used.
